Grass Catcher Attachment for RERs
To help so you didn't have to pick up grass clippings, a bagger attachment was offered to go on the back of the rider. This is the same design one that was made for the lawn tractor, except the frame, clear chute tube, and maybe the chute part that goes on the mower deck were different. I am not exactly sure about the piece that goes on the deck since I do not have that piece for the bagger that goes with the lawn tractors. The bagger could only be used on Cadets with the 28 in. single blade deck, limiting it to the 55 and 85 Special. There were also 2 styles of baggers; an earlier one that had a lid like a plastic container, and the later one that had a high, hinged top cover.
Our bagger came from a Craigslist ad for a pile of misc. lawn equipment. In the middle was the shining gem, the 85 special with the bagger on backwards over the engine. I looked carefully and I saw what looked to be the chute part that goes on the deck. We made sure to call right away. The guy agreed to hold the pile until the weekend when we could pick it up. When we got there, we started carefully going through the other stuff in the pile to locate the other pieces. We had to take the whole pile, which wasn't a bad deal since we would later make use out of some of the stuff. With the bagger safe inside and the car and trailer loaded, we set off home.
After closer inspection, the bagger turned out to be in pretty good shape. The front of the plastic lid was cracked a bit, but we sent it to a guy we know who did an excellent job repairing it. He even used an under coating paint that gave the plastic the texture it would have had originally. As of now only the front part of the lid is done since I still need to get the decals at the back made. The original bag is thankfully in good shape. The only thing wrong with it is the edge is ripped along the seam. When we restore the 85 this will be fixed, but for now another bag is being used. The only thing missing from the setup was the clear chute tube. Right before our first show we experimented with different types of plastic to find the best one. Thin plexiglass was a bit too thick and ended up cracking into a bunch of pieces, but we did order some thin plastic material at our hardware store and made the tube on it today.
I only know of this bagger and 2 others, one I saw on a website and the other a picture of one at a auction that happened after I saw it. If you would happen to have one of these, I'd like to hear about it.
